History 3

First Aerial Truck
University City’s first aerial truck, an American LaFrance, was added to the Fire Department’s equipment in 1952. Fire and ambulance equipment has been replaced as necessary over the last 95 years, and citizens have always been willing to provide funding. The newest piece of equipment is the 100-foot Bronto Skylift Aerial Truck, purchased in 2004 with proceeds from a sales tax approved by citizens in 2002.

Today’s Members Staff

Today, University City is served by a 47 member Fire Department, which includes 45 paramedic firefighters staffing Fire House #1 and Fire House #2. Citizens are assured of quick response time with 911 services and a fleet of fire and emergency vehicles. University City also participates in mutual aid agreements with other communities by providing and receiving additional emergency service as needed.
