Fire Chief’s Message


 

Chief Olshwanger's Retirement Party

After 28 years of service with the University City Fire Department, Fire Chief Steve Olshwanger has retired.  On July 19, 2010, the Fire Department held a luncheon for employees, retirees and family to join together to congratulate Chief Olshwanger on his retirement.  Steve started as a Firefighter/Paramedic in May 1982, in September 1987 he was promoted to Captain, in February 2000 he was promoted to Medical Officer, in September 2003 he was promoted to Deputy Chief, and his final step with the UCFD was in November 2005 as Fire Chief.  Steve has accepted the position as Fire Chief of the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District.  We wish Steve all the best.  Thank you for all your years of dedicated service to the City of University City employees and residents.

 

Assistant Chief Don Miner has been appointed as the Acting Fire Chief.  A/C Miner has been with the University City Fire Department since January 1980.  A/C Miner started with the Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic and was promoted to the rank of Captain in July 1987, in September 2001 he was promoted to Battalion Chief, and then promoted to Assistant Fire Chief in December 2005.   A/C Miner will be interim Fire Chief until the process to promote a new Fire Chief is completed.
