Code Enforcement

The Planning and Development Department is responsible for administering the Property Maintenance Code for the city.

Purpose & Objectives

The purpose of the code is to protect the public health, safety and welfare in all existing structures, residential and nonresidential, and on all existing premises and exterior property by establishing minimum requirements and standards.

Minimum Requirements

The department enforces code for any premises, structures, exterior property, equipment, and facilities for:

·         Light

·         Ventilation

·         Space

·         Heating

·         Sanitation

·         Protection from the elements

·         Life safety

·         Safety from fire and other hazards

·         Safe and sanitary maintenance

The department fixes the responsibility of owners, operators, and occupants; regulating the occupancy of existing structures and premises and providing for administration, enforcement and penalties.
