The Commission for Access and Local Original Programming (CALOP) awards grants to independent filmmakers to create programs spotlighting our region’s art, culture and history to air on cable television channels in University City and the surrounding area. There are seven voting members appointed by the Council, all of which must be residents. At least one member is chosen from a group of three nominees submitted to Council by the cable franchisee. Members must have a background or knowledge of at least one of three areas, telecasting/cable casting, educational programs and cultural activities. There are four non-voting members, consisting of a Councilmember and a representative each from the School District, franchisee and the Higher Education Consortium of Greater St. Louis. CALOP meets at 6:00 pm on the fourth Thursday of the month. The term of office is three years.
