The City of University City is now accepting bids for Project No. 1073 - Loop Parking Garage & Retail Space.
The Scope of Work includes removing all ceiling panels, cleaning all t-bar joints and panels, applying Vulkem 116 or Sikaflex 201 sealants, and repainting ceiling to match existing for all ceiling areas located within the retail space.
Not less than the prevailing hourly rate of wages shall be paid to all workers performing under this contract in this area according to the rates determined by the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations of the State of Missouri.
On Monday, August 16, 2010, bid packages will be available from the Public Works office on the 3rd floor of City Hall upon payment of a refundable fee of $50 per set; said deposit will be refunded if it is returned in good condition within ten (10) calendar days after the opening of the proposals, provided that the contractor has submitted a reasonable bid. Overview
The Department of Public Works' mission is to maintain the integrity of all public systems and services vital to the health, safety, and quality of life of the residents of University City.
Many of the services that touch our residents every day lives are managed under the Public Works Department umbrella. The department has 70 full-time and part-time employees and about 12 contracted laborer positions to assist with seasonal operations. All services and programs are provided utilizing an operational budget of about $10 million. Traditional city services such as snow and ice removal, street lighting, street maintenance, sanitation, recycling, construction management, central garage, building maintenance, and engineering services are provided under the auspices of the Public Works Department. In addition to these traditional services, the City operates one of the state's oldest running recycling programs.

Administration & Engineering Division
The administrative and engineering office is located on the 3rd floor of City Hall at 6801 Delmar Boulevard. Evelyn Shields-Benford heads the department as Director of Public Works. This division is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and staff. Staff provide right-of-way management services associated with the planning, design, construction and control of public streets, sidewalks, and bridges within the City, administration of the Sewer Lateral Repair Program, inspections of all public properties and general support of other city departments and Public Works divisions as related to these functions. Solid Waste Management Division
This division is responsible for the collection and disposal of refuse from all homes and public institutions within the City. The division also provides for the residential collection of recyclables. University City is one of only a few municipalities in the St. Louis metropolitan area to own and operate its own transfer station and a fleet of refuse and recycling vehicles. Dennis Luckett is the Sanitation Superintendent. The operational and administrative services office is located at 1015 Pennsylvania Avenue. Street Maintenance Division
This division is responsible for the signing, marking and maintenance of all 96.6 miles of public city-controlled streets, and related facilities, including repairs, sign installation and maintenance, cleaning, traffic control, street sweeping, leaf collection and processing, snow/ice removal, weed control on public right-of-way, and street light maintenance. In addition, this division is responsible for the maintenance of bridges and other structures. Gary Wilkinson heads the division. The office is located at 1015 Pennsylvania Avenue. Fleet Maintenance Division
This division is responsible for acquiring and maintaining vehicles and equipment necessary in the day-to-day operations of various City departments. The objective of this division is to most economically provide vehicles, equipment, maintenance and service for City operational needs. In March 2008, the City began utilizing biodiesel fuel in diesel powered units. The division has two Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified master technicians. Facilities Maintenance Division
This Facilities Maintenance division, under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Lead Custodian, Terry Strausbaugh, includes custodial, maintenance, and building operation activities required to keep City Hall, the E.O.C area, Senior Citizens Building, Annex and jail cell area, Fire Department engine houses, and other City buildings functional. Janitorial services, minor building repairs, operation and maintenance of the heating, cooling and electrical systems, as well as the elevator, telephone and security system operations, are also responsibilities of this division.
