[ARCHIVED] Application Now Open for Ward 1 City Council Vacancy

Due to the resignation of Councilmember Jeff Hales, there is a vacancy on the City Council in Ward 1.   

Per the City Charter, the Council has 60 days to appoint a replacement for the Ward One Councilmember position. The appointed member will serve until the next April election at which time a successor will be elected for the unexpired term. In the event the Council is unable to agree within sixty days, then a special election shall be held to fill the vacancy until the next regular municipal election.   

An open application process has begun to fill the vacancy. You can view and download the application here.

Individuals applying must meet the following qualifications as outlined in Section 6 of the City of University City Charter.

  • You must be a qualified voter and resident of University City for at least three consecutive years prior to appointment
  • You must be a Ward 1 resident
  • You cannot hold any other, “popularly elected public office nor shall they hold any other compensatory position in the city government during their terms.”

 Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025.
