Due to the resignation of Councilmember Jeff Hales, there is a vacancy on the City Council in Ward 1.
Per the City Charter, the Council has 60 days to appoint a replacement for the Ward One Councilmember position. The appointed member will serve until the next April election at which time a successor will be elected for the unexpired term. In the event the Council is unable to agree within sixty days, then a special election shall be held to fill the vacancy until the next regular municipal election.

Individuals applying must meet the following qualifications as outlined in Section 6 of the City of University City Charter.
- You must be a qualified voter and resident of University City for at least three consecutive years prior to appointment
- You must be a Ward 1 resident
- You cannot hold any other, “popularly elected public office nor shall they hold any other compensatory position in the city government during their terms.”
