[ARCHIVED] New City Manager for University City

The City Council of University City today announced that Lehman Walker will become City Manager of University City effective August 2, 2010. Mr. Walker is currently serving as Director of Community and Economic Development in Evanston, Illinois.

Mr. Walker served as Director of Community Development in University City for almost twelve years, leaving in 2009.

“Mr. Walker will bring his extensive experience and knowledge of University City to this job,” said University City Mayor Shelley Welsch. “He knows the challenges we face as a community – fiscally and otherwise – and has the background and temperament to work well with the Council, and residents, as we face and deal with these challenges. The Council is pleased that we were able to attract a manager of his caliber, in a time frame that works for us and at minimal cost to the City in these tough economic times.”

Mr. Walker has been working in municipal government in this country and his native Canada for more than thirty years. He has his Master’s in Public Administration from The Maxwell School at Syracuse University. He has a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning, and a B.A. in Social Science from California State University. He is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Planners and the International City Management Association.

Mr. Walker will reside in University City.
