[ARCHIVED] Gaming IT: New School/Old School

In May 2012, University City Public Library, in partnership with AARP Chapter 4048 University City/Clayton, will host intergenerational games events called Gaming It: New School/Old School as part of a series of programs entitled Building Common Ground: Discussions of Community, Civility, and Compassion. The Building Common Ground grant program series is funded by the American Library Association (ALA) and the Fetzer Institute, and its goal is to engage the public in contemplation and discussion of the importance of community, civility and compassion in their daily lives. UCPL is 1 of only 30 libraries nationally to be awarded this grant.

The library’s programs are designed to enhance connections among senior citizens and youth in our community. The games events will be held on the following dates:
• Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7pm – in Lil’s Treehouse (2nd floor)
• Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 1pm – in Lil’s Treehouse (2nd floor)

The event will feature a combination of electronic and ‘unplugged’ activities such as cards, marbles and board games, with special prizes awarded to gamers who reach across the generation gap to play and win together.

Refreshments will be served; reservations are not required.

Building Common Ground programs to be held later in the year include an art show open to young adults and senior citizens on the program themes of community, civility, and compassion, and a service fair.
