Single stream recycling is experiencing a setback due to increasingly stringent standards overseas.
But don’t worry, recyclable items will still be recycled! However, it is now more important than ever to avoid contamination (plastic bags, Styrofoam, food, and other non-recyclable items) and to keep your materials dry.
Make sure your recyclables are transformed into new useful products by recycling right - avoid "wish-cycling" (recycling an item you hope is recyclable but isn't), REDUCE by using reusable containers, and consider "pre-cycling" when you do your shopping (buying items that come in recyclable packages). Recycling right can help improve the quality of mixed paper and help keep our recycling industry strong.
