WHAT: Spring Building a Better Block Event
WHEN: Sunday, April 12th 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.
WHERE: 7301 Olive Boulevard (at Midland Boulevard) University City 63131
• Tours of the former Gables Tearoom
• Sculpture Project by Local Students
• Light Refreshments
Participants will have the chance to tour the 1932 Harris Armstrong building that originally housed the Gables Tea Room. After several changes in usage over the years, the building has stood vacant. There is no formal presentation, however everyone will have the opportunity to review building information, speak with architects from H3 Studio about the condition of the building, stroll the property, and view the Washington University Sculpture project erected by Washington U. students. There will be surveys on site for all attendees to complete asking for recommendations and ideas for the building and overall site. Refreshments will be served.
The event is designed to gather public input on the reuse of the city property. Possibilities include a community garden, urban farm and sculpture park. The building could be repurposed for community space or retail. Proposals for the building and property will be gathered by the city staff members, who later will make a formal recommendation to the City Council.
